Hello and welcome to the Holmes Heritage Turkey web site.
My name is Richard Holmes and my business partner is Caroline Yarworth.Between us, we own and operate Holmes Heritage Turkeys.
Some years back, we visited Pam Drake, a local turkey breeder and fell in love with her beautiful turkeys and also her aims of conserving the rare breed turkeys.
At present, Caroline and I are the owners of Bourbon Red, Pied and Norfolk Black turkeys and we are looking forward to our first year of breeding these beautiful birds.
To ensure that there is no possibility interbreeding, after worming at the end of January, our turkeys are segregated into their breeding pens. Here they will stay until the season finishes at the end of June. We worm our turkeys four times a year January/April/July/October using Flubenvet and all of our birds are fed on non GM feed.
Due to the Avian ‘Flu sweeping the country, sadly our breeding teams will not have access to their outside pens until the DEFRA restrictions are removed. In the interim, we are giving them plenty of cabbages, Brussel Sprout tops and other goodies.
The greens as well as being good for the turkeys, helps to keep them occupied. The turkey breeding season usually starts in February/March and we will keep you updated with progress!
